DEBARGE
Rhythm Of The Night
written by Diane Warren
produced by Richard Perry
I made this page June 19th, 2021, 62nd birthday of DeBarge sibling
and member Mark. Happy Birthday, MDB!! This song choice was
pretty self-evident, one I’ve been enamored of for eons.
Up to this point, most of the DeBarge family’s—who briefly rivaled the Jacksons for most beloved family pop/R&B group—success had come from their touching ballads. “All This Love,” the band’s 1982 album title track, soared to #1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart. Early 1985 brought out the Rhythm Of The Night album, closed by its own title track. It was not the only song on the record written for them by songwriter Diane Warren, but it was the one considered to have kicked off her own success. She’s since made a name for herself by writing hits like “Because You Loved Me” for Céline Dion, “How Do I Live” for LeAnn Rimes, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” for Aerosmith... and my other personal favorite, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” for Starship.
In addition to its produced album release, “Rhythm” also found its way into coinciding martial arts film The Last Dragon, doubtlessly responsible for a nice chunk of the movie’s success. The song charted all over and claimed the US R&B and AC #1 spots. It’s been one of my favorites since the early days.

Lyrics
When it feels like the world is on your shoulders / And all of the madness has got you going crazy / It’s time to get out, step out into the street / Where all of the action is right there at your feet, well / I know a place where we can dance the whole night away / Underneath electric stars / Just come with me, and we can shake your blues right away / You’ll be doing fine once the music starts, oh / Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night / Dance until the morning light / Forget about the worries on your mind / You can leave them all behind / Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night / Ohhh, the rhythm of the night, ohhh, yeah / Look out on the street now, the party’s just beginning / The music’s playin’, a celebration’s starting / And under the streetlights, the scene is being set / A night for romance, a night you won’t forget, so / Come join the fun, this ain’t no time to be staying home / Oooh, there’s too much going on, oh / Tonight is gonna be a night like you’ve never known / We’re gonna have a good time the whole night long, oh / x1 / x1 / x1 / x1 / Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night / Dance until the morning light / Forget about the worries on your mind / (Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night) Ohhh, baby, ohhh, darling / (Forget about the worries on your mind) Ohhh-ohhh-ohhh-ohhh / (Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night) Ohhh, baby, wooo-hooo-hooo / (Forget about the worries on your mind) / (La, la la la, la la) La la la la la la / (La, la la la) La la la la la la la la la la-la-la / (La, la la la, la la) The music’s playin’, it’s a celebration / (La, la la la) The music’s playin’, everybody dance! / (Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night) Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, whoa / (Forget about the worries on your mind) / ’Cause you can leave them all behind / x1 / (Feel the beat of the rhythm of the night) Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh whoa / (Forget about the worries on your mind)/[fade]
